Leon is a Brazilian furniture company with 22 years of activity. They decided to embrace the digital world and launch their first online store. I was hired to bring this vision to life, creating a functional MVP for their e-commerce platform.

From abstract ideas to a concrete MVP

To build a new online store from the ground up, I adopted a user-centered approach, divided into four key phases, moving from initial concepts to a functional prototype. This 4-step approach was essential for the development of the project, providing a clear focus on research, product requirements, structure, and prototyping in each phase.

Deep dived into the company, target audience and the market

The initial phase of this project was crucial for aligning goals and expectations with Leon. I conducted brainstorming sessions with the company’s team to understand their history, products, logistics, expectations, and vision for their digital presence.

User Surveys and Market Analysis

After the company alignments, I moved forward with data collection. I conducted surveys to map user preferences and behaviors, gaining essential insights from Leon’s target audience. I also performed market analysis to understand the best practices of leading companies in the furniture sector, which helped me grasp market trends and identify opportunities.

User stories

With all the user data collected on the initial surveys, it was time to develop user stories. Through these stories, I mapped out crucial user intentions and desired outcomes, highlighting important tasks users seek to accomplish when interacting with a furniture online store.

Product Requirements

I outlined all essential product functionalities, visual and written content requirements, creating a detailed blueprint that would help build the product’s structure.

Organized functionalities and content in a logical structure

User Flows

Based on the user stories, I crafted user flows to illustrate the pathways users follow to complete specific tasks and achieve their goals. This involved mapping out the sequence of interactions between users and the interface.

Information Architecture

I worked on the information architecture to define the platform’s structure. Here, I established how users move between pages and elements to easily find relevant information, ensuring a functional and intuitive navigation.

Initial drafts and first tests with users

Low-Fidelity Prototypes

At this stage, the platform started taking shape. I created low-fidelity wireframes to provide an initial view of the website’s structure. These wireframes acted as a basic framework, outlining core functionalities, content placement, and key interactions on each page.

Usability Tests

I conducted usability tests with five participants from the target audience to evaluate the effectiveness of the platform's structure. I defined specific goals for them to achieve, and the results were overall positive. However, I noticed that some participants struggled to complete certain goals, which were refined before moving on to the UI design phase.

Leon's Design System

Now it was time to focus on the visual aspects of the interface! This phase involved creating a design system for Leon’s e-commerce platform, defining visual elements such as color schemes, typography, imagery, icons, UI components and interaction patterns.

Impact

The MVP was approved by Leon and the platform is currently in implementation. The platform is set to deliver a functional and engaging end-to-end online shopping experience, reflecting Leon’s dedication to quality and customer service.

As Leon’s first e-commerce, this project represents a significant milestone for the 22-year-old company, marking their entry into the digital market. It’s a major achievement for them, and I’m thrilled to have been a part of making this dream a reality.

I appreciate your attention =)
